Negotiation for Professionals: Powerful Methods to Boost Your Success

Northwestern University, School of Professional Studies.

July 20-22, 2022. Downtown Chicago. (In-Person)

This course should benefit negotiation experts and beginners—from nearly any profession or walk of life. It includes instruction and practice in the negotiation basics (which can help you deal with a range of difficult situations) and explains obstacles to using these methods wisely. It then presents methods to overcome these obstacles, principally the core concerns approach to using emotions in negotiation; mindfulness; and Internal Family Systems (IFS)—a method of understanding and managing internal and external conflict. The program draws on Leonard Riskin’s new book, Mindfully Managing Conflict (forthcoming, fall 2022) and Roger Fisher & Daniel Shapiro’s, Beyond Reason: Using Emotions While You Negotiate (Viking 2005).

Faculty:
Leonard Riskin, Visiting Professor, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and Chesterfield Smith Professor Emeritus, University of Florida Levin College of Law; and
Daniel Shapiro, director of the Harvard International Negotiation Program, Associate Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School, and Affiliate Faculty, Program on Negotiation, Harvard Law School.
